Good Idea - Half Baked

this software is the germ of an excellent tool but it is sparse on features and causes havoc with my Mac.

old news is new again, and again, and again

So tired of receiving the same notification over and over.

I am so glad that I paid only $0.99 for this piece of junk. I fill out the feed websites and, well nothing happens. there is not even a link to write a concern to the developer. I guess every once in a while you buy a piece of Junk. Piece of Junk, and this is supposed to be Mountain Lion Ready?

- Could you please add support for feed:// urls in Safari. I want to register rss feed primary from browser. - Name of the feed should be loaded automatically after entering rss url. - Could you please add support for Basic Http authentication, some feeds require this.

Lightweight, unobtrusive and not in the way on the toolbar or dock. Would be nicer if a preference could be set to bring up a specific reader instead of browser.

Really dig this app for instant notification for RSS feed. I like having it to notify me right away for particular feeds. If you add too many it can get a bit crazy, but having just a few works great. Would be awesome to have Google Reader integration or at least the ability to import feeds.

I like it! But there are a few things you ccould do to make it even BETTER: - For starters, please remove the icon on the menubar. It doesnt look great, and it really clashes with my current setup. A shortcut is much more reasonable to use. - I dont know if you can do this (but since we can use all three in Notification Center), but for BREAKING news, thats important, an alert instead of a badge would be good. And maybe let us choose betwen them on a feed by feed basis. - A better icon. I just dont like it, and it looks cut off a bit on my Launchpad. Sorry! Awesome work though, gives a breath of life to my Notification Center!

Probably not worth the $0.99

Dont bother. Barely worked. Crashed my computer. Spend the $0.99 on a song youve been humming all day. Not on this broken app.

I was looking for something to notify me of very specific feeds that I wanted to monitor closely (Github repo activity) and this little util does it just perfectly, thank you.

Just what I was looking for !

Keep up the good work... Some notices come back , please fix this. I like the icon but there are too many blue ones out there .

This app is great because it doesnt take up a lot of screen space. It gives you a lot of control over how often the websites are checked and how many stories pop-up. Great app!

It gives you no capability to read the content of the RSS feed or even the full summary. It only populates the Notification Center, and clicking on items simply opens the links that the feed articles point to and then permanently removes from Notification Center. I understand that things dont normally remain in Notification Center after being clicked on, but normally an app that posts to Notification Center actually has an interface that manages the content it posts notifications for. Unfortunately, the content of an RSS feed is not always identical with where the feed entries link to. Knowing that there is new RSS content, but not actually being able to go to or read that content, isnt very useful to me.

implemention isnt so good. After setting it up, I began to get my first notifications. That was great, but then every ten minutes I kept getting the same notifications until I gave up and quit the program. That wasnt so great. Emailed the developer but havent heard back.

I gave the application four out of five stars. Why? Because its simple. Its out of my way. It lets me check my RSS feeds when I want to without having an app in the menu bar or dock. All you do, is swipe your fingers and voila, theres your RSS feed. Its simple guys, which is both its strength and weakness. Strength because its fast and minimal. Weakness because its ease of use is lowered thanks to there being no true RSS reader that pops up after you click the notification center RSS link. Overall Im happy with the program, its great for those of us whod like to keep our Macs simple.

I have been looking for an RSS feed notifier for Apples Notification center that did two things: 1) I could choose the feeds and the update intervals 2) When I clicked the notification it brought me directly the article (not to an RSS app or feed). This app does both of those things wonderfully! The feeds are easy to create and label, and the setup is simple and reliable. Things I would LOVE to see in the feature: *More update interval choices (i.e. daily, hourly, etc instead of just minutes) *Summary customization (i.e. Choose 1,2, or 3 summary lines per each feed so that my notification center doesnt fill up so fast) *Right now the notification dont seem to make a sound, even though the option is available in the System Preference pane *Choose what happens when I click the notification (i.e. Be able to pick the site it directs to, app it opens, etc) Overall, GREAT APP!

Broken update

This version constantly uses 240% of the CPU and I get the spinning beachball when I click on the menu bar icon.

Merchon · 12 years ago

The most recent version uses a huge amount of CPU resources (according to iStat menu: about 45%). Ive decided to not use it anymore until this problem is fixed.

dvouill · 12 years ago

I just upgraded to 1.1.1 and it appears to solve some CPU issues. Overall it is much better since 1.1 was released, and only once did I have some old RSS feeds appear -- previously they were appearing a few times a day and very annoying but now that all seems mostly solved.

The first feed I entered happened to be served over https. News Notifier demanded I enter a username and password even though it’s a public feed. Then it worked for a moment, downloading a batch of headlines, but when I tried to quit it kept demanding a username/password for the “authenticated” feed, then it crashed. What a waste of money and time.
